Year 3 / 4 GIRLS NEW TO FOOTBALL FESTIVAL
On Friday 16th June, 10 Year 3 / 4 Girls took part in a ‘Let girls play football’ festival at Cambourne VC.
This festival targeted girls who are NEW to football or have little experience, with a view to inspiring them to have a go. Have a go, they certainly did, although it was one of the hottest days of the week, with no shade, only golf umbrellas as shelter!
Without having any real experience of positioning, some of the girls started slotting naturally into roles during the afternoon, whilst others were happy to chase after the ball wherever it was. Everybody was very resilient in the heat and played with great sportsmanship, gaining more confidence during every match. Throughout it all, they were smiling and having fun!
Three girls were acknowledged by sports leaders at the end of the afternoon as we were leaving. Maya slotted into the goalkeeping role almost straight away, making some super saves, Skylar was an amazing midfield, passing the ball consistently to the forwards and Millie became a great forward with many attempts on goal with the eventual smash into the back of the net! Each was awarded a Cambridge Utd training top in assembly. Everyone in the team received an SCSSP certificate and a medal from Mrs Turian too!
