Wimpole Cross-Country 2023 (Updated)
On Wednesday 29th November, 48 children from Years 3-6, represented the school at the annual Wimpole Cross Country Competition.
Everybody was really excited about taking part, although we ensured that a spare pair of shoes was in our bag for afterwards, as it was rather muddy after recent rain!
After a fab warm up with sports leaders from local secondary schools, separate races took part in each year group /gender, with the maximum of 6 children in each race from each school.
The start was very busy , which meant there was no overtaking for the first section and everybody had to run in lines of 6. Once the course opened up and
overtaking was allowed, it got very exciting!
Every single runner made it round and although a few were disappointed with their place, they all tried their best and completed the one mile course.
There were 21 school in the competition which meant that most races had 120 children at least!!!
Swavesey should be very proud of themselves as there are much bigger schools taking part now.
Here are the results:
Y3 Boys 16th / Y3 Girls 14th out of 21 schools
Y4 Boys 7th / Y4 Girls 9th out of 21 schools
Year 3 / 4 FINISHED in the TEAM event in 12th Place.
Y5 Boys 6th / Y5 Girls 5th out of 21 schools
Y6 Boys 2nd / Y6 Girls 16th out of 21 schools
Year 5 / 6 FINISHED 3rd in the TEAM event.
Individual performances were amazing for Year 5 Moses, finishing in 1st Place, for the second year in a row and Year 6 Alastair, also finishing in 1st Place for the first time, as he broke his arm last year and couldn't take part!
Well done everybody for a great morning, with great sportsmanship throughout and exemplary behaviour.
Thank you to the staff who helped support me at the event and to the parents / carers who came along to watch.
