A Victorian Christmas for Year 5/6
As part of their Victorian studies, yesterday the year 5/6s learnt how hard life in Victorian times was. Read all about it here.
Dear Diary,
Today at school, it was our Victorian day. It took place in the school hall. First of all, we listened to 'Sir' explain what life was like for Victorian children and then he got into character as a very strict and scary Victorian teacher.
Then we began our day's work. We wrote in ink (which we soon learnt stained everything it touched) and then we did some handwriting practice. Then all of us recorded a Victorian timeline of key events leading up to the 'current date': 23rd December 1897.
After break, we all did some Christmas art. In two blinks of an eye, it was lunch. Soon after, we went in groups of 10 and began preparing to perform in the grand ceremony. Me, Lauren and Bonnie were telling terrible dad jokes, everyone was fake laughing because they were all so bad. We made it so 'cringy'. I laughed as I was bellowing them to the Victorian children. We then watched 5-10 fantastic drama performances.
By the end of that, it was home, so we packed up and headed back to our classes. It was a long but enjoyable day! But most importantly, we all went home grateful that we get to go to school in the year 2024, rather than in 1897.
Lila-Rose.
