RUNNERS-UP at the 'A' Team Bee Netball 'SHIELD' FINALS!

A very tired team, after 7 wonderful netball matches in the sunshine!

On Thursday 24th April, seven Year 6s, forming Swavesey A netball team, travelled to Comberton VC for the 'A' team SHIELD FINALS. Fourteen teams took part in the TOP TIER of the 'A' league in the SCSSP, and there were a lot of matches to play!

In Round 1, the team played six matches, which were ten minutes long. In the first match against Gamlingay, we won 8-2. The pre-match nerves began to subside, we were ready for match two against Barrington, which was another win of 8-0. The third was a really fantastic game against Great Abington, and so close throughout with a very fair 1-1 draw for both teams. Onto the next match against Hardwick, which was another great match with a win of 6-1 this time. The match against Histon Park ended with another win, 6-3, and our final game in round 1 against Coton, ended in another win of 3-0!

The teams then had to wait to see the placing they would be playing for in the final match of the tournament. Swavesey had won their pool, and so were now playing for first or second place against Histon Brook, in the other pool.

It was a very fast-paced match, with lots of tired legs playing now. The final result was a fair loss to Swavesey by   5-1. We were, however, RUNNERS-UP and received certificates and medals too.

Swavesey A have also now qualified to represent the school at the County Finals, as we have every year previously, on the afternoon of Wednesday 21st May at the St Ivo Academy!

I am so proud of the team and the improvement and commitment shown since they joined the netball club in Year 5! You really were a credit to Swavesey today, and showed great sportsmanship to all teams.

Thank you to Mrs Durant for accompanying me for the afternoon.
