Are children' s rights respected ?

Each class has a discussion about how rights in the UK are or aren't respected.
We then thought about our local area and wondered if anything could be improved.
You can find the reports of our findings below.
You can have a go at the powerpoint below too
Thank you for completing the up and down activity.
Here is a report on our findings from it.
We found that in our community, children’s rights are being met because:
- We have access to education at Swavesey Primary school and Swavesey Village college.
- We have the snug at school to support children with their mental health,
- We have different committees in school run by children so they are listened to and can participate in making decisions about the school.
- We have access to health care at Swavesey surgery.
- We have places like the green and Fen Drayton lake to play and relax and in the school we have playgrounds and a big field.
- We can join different clubs and groups (SVC sports hall, beavers, gymnastics, football…) in the village but also in the school (recorder, art, history, netball, football, mathsfit…).
- We have fundraiser to help others as well as the school
- We have good access to food and water with Tesco, Londis, Newspaper shop and coffee shop. At school, the choice of food is good and there is even an option for vegetarian so everyone is included.
We feel few things could be improved:
- Inappropriate graffiti in places in Swavesey that are not in the best interest of children could be removed.
- There are no dentist in the village so people have to travel far to access dental care.
- In school, Cuttlery is often wasted by being thrown away. (to be passed onto ecocommittee)
- There are no water fountain at the play park so even though children have a lovely area to run around and play football, they have no access to clean water should they get thirsty which is not good for their health.
So overall, we are very lucky to live in Swavesey but we will try to help and take actions to help where things can be improved.
Which of the three issues raised do you feel is the most important?
- inappropriate graffitis
- no dentist in Swavesey village
- no water fountain at the park (the green)
