'A' Team 'SHIELD FINALS' leads to County Finals!
All smiles after a challenging afternoon!
On Wednesday afternoon, the ‘A’ team netball squad travelled to the ‘SHIELD’ finals at Comberton Village College. The initial competition began in October with round 2 in March, where we qualified into the TOP HALF of the ‘A’ Team competition, so the team knew that matches would be tough.
The competition began with teams placed in a ‘pool’, each playing four matches before qualifying into a ‘division.’ Our first match was against Trumpington, which was remarkably close, but we won 4-2. The second game against Barton was even closer, and we drew 2-2, which was very fair. We then played Milton and won 9-0, followed by a 6-1 win against Bassingbourn!
All the teams were then told the division they had qualified for, and we were in Division 1! We were one of four teams, the top 4 teams in the SCSSP tournament overall ! These games were going to be even harder, as two of the teams had not lost a match yet during the afternoon.
Our first match was against Great Abington, which was close for most of the match, but sadly we lost 3-1 (they were the overall winners at the end!) Our second match was against Trumpington, who we had beaten earlier in the afternoon. This time we lost 5-2 but were not downhearted and went into our final game feeling positive. We were playing The Vine, who had not lost a match during the afternoon either! This was so close, and we were thrilled to draw 3-3 with them, as they came second overall.
We finished in 4th place but were excited to hear that the TOP 4 teams qualified for the County Finals on 22nd May!!!
We will be playing against teams in the Peterborough, Wisbech, Huntingdon and Cambridge City School Sport Partnerships, so we will look forward to another new, tougher challenge …
During the afternoon, the team said they were…
"Proud to be playing.....excited to be in the top half of the competition......enjoyed playing against new schools.... liked seeing children they had met at other events (in and out of school)... were thrilled to be in the County Finals!"
Congratulations to you all, Mrs Durant and I were immensely proud of your respectful attitude, supporting each other and other teams.
