A wonderful morning at Wimpole!

All smiles at the end of a fabulous experience at Wimpole for 48 Swavesey runners.

On Wednesday morning, after a very wet Tuesday, 48 runners from Year 3-6 headed off to Wimpole Estate, to take part in a cross-country race.

The weather could not have been better for running, albeit a bit breezy at times! After a crisp frost, the sun came out and highlighted the wonderful autumnal colours, an amazing backdrop for a brilliant event in the SCSSP calendar (one of my personal favourites).

All the children attending have been running hard since September, at either the golden mile club or during short golden mile sessions with their class teacher. Every child is already working towards their 25 mile or 50 mile certificates!

Six runners represented each team, in each year group and gender, and had to race around a one-mile course. There was a record entry of 24 schools this year and 1000 plus runners took part. It was a very special experience for them all.

The start and finish areas were changed this year, as there were so many runners. Runners ran a big loop and headed towards the finish, through a Christmas Cathedral of lights, which looked stunning in the sunshine, leading to the main drive of the house. They were greeted by lots of cheering from their peers and teachers!

It was great to witness so many children experiencing a cross-country race, and there were lots of smiles at the end and a great sense of achievement from everyone!

Year 6 Moses had previously finished in 2nd place in Year 3 and, since then, won both the Year 4 and 5 boys races. He was nervously excited about running for the last time in Year 6. I saw a big smile on his face as he came down the finishing walkway, in a jubilant FIRST place again! Congratulations on your hat-trick, Moses.

Other personal celebrations were from Year 3 Emma, who finished in a brilliant 3rd place in her first race at Wimpole for the school. I'm sure Emma is already looking forward to next year!

Thank you to Mrs Sprawson, Miss Butler, Mrs Faiers and Mrs Durant for coming along to support myself and the children.
